Jodie Foster The Brave OneJodie Foster has taken to her new role as action queen with style and grace, with The Brave One being the third film in her protective and yet butt-kicking oevre, following Panic Room and Flightplan.

And the audiences love her for it — The Brave One has taken the top spot in the US box office this weekend with a take of approximately $14 million.

Take that, Anna And The King!

“Women are really responding to the movie even though it has its violent moments,” said Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros as quoted by the Los Angeles Times. “That’s encouraging, and we positioned the movie at a time when we’ve got room to run.”

Hitting the number two spot was the western 3:10 to Yuma, showing strong legs since last week’s debut with a take of about 9 mill.  This was closely followed by Mr. Woodcock, which also came in at around the nine mark.  Don’t worry — the New Line comedy isn’t winning critical acclaim, either.

Under-the-radar Dragon Wars surprised with a $5.3 mill showing to take fourth, and Superbad keeps chugging along, taking the fifth slot with $5.2 million.

Next week Good Luck Chuck, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Sydney White enter the fray.
