Microsoft: Xbox 360 Will Beat PS3 Because Of Stronger Position

Microsoft is confident that the Xbox 360 has a “stronger position” than PS3 and that consumers will choose their next-gen console this Christmas season. Between the Elite coming out at £299.99 and the recent price drop of the other models, the company may have a reason to be confident.
“If you look at PS3, it’s a lot of money for families to come in at,” said Dan Cornelius, Microsoft’s UK marketing manager for the Xbox 360, to MCV.
“Sony is requiring a fairly novice gamer to enter into things like Blu-Ray and wireless gaming by default. The Core’s still doing well for us in the UK and the price drop is bound to produce a spike in sales. These customers like the fact that they don’t have to foot the bill for a load of technology they don’t need. It means we can gain access to a type of consumer that PlayStation 3 cannot.”
“With the launch of Elite and the price drop, the delta in terms of value for money between 360 and PS3 gets broader,” he continued. “We feel we’re in a stronger position than our competitors in the run up to Christmas.”
Its only the games that keep the xbox going in the lead, but the xbox started early and is obviously at the top of sales but its also going to finish early because its a rushed piece of junk. If microsoft are going to release something and not even be part of the testing, thats pretty stupid if you ask me. The future is coming and the xbox has already been phased out and they started bringing the elite and possibly more models to try and keep up. Im glad i waited for the ps3 even though there arent many games yet, and i wanna see the sales when mgs 4 and gta 4 come out in the same month! >:)
First of all the XBOX 360 is clearly in prime position to dominate the Christmas shopping season worlwide (exluding Japan). The post above from Steve is obviously from a delusional BS3 fanboy bored because his worthless BS3 has NO games to play. I often wondered how so many lunatic BS3 fanboys spout can such nonsensical comments unchecked by the 360 legion. Then I realized, XBOX 360 owners are too busy playing Bioshock, Forza, Madden, Gears, Rainbow Six, Crackdown….etc. to worry about these miscreants. Steve, you go ahead & scour the internet posting your BS3 rants, trying to convince yourself & others the BS3 you were held ransom for is not useless. I am going play some kick a** games on my XBOX 360, which I have had since launch Christmas 2005 with no problems.
In the grand scheme of things Microsoft haven’t been particularly successful in the gaming world. They are certainly making a great product but after 6 years they have not made a penny of profit and have got less than a quarter of the market share of Sony.
If you compare that to Sony’s first 6 years in gaming you see a totally different story. After 6 years they had sold well over 50m PlayStation’s and were about to release the PS2. They had also made massive profits.
The fact is that Microsoft should now have a far bigger market share than they do but in reality they are still being outsold every month by the PS2. Sony’s market share is already over 100m more than Microsoft’s and is still growing at a faster rate. The big games being released next year for the PS3 really are system sellers. Halo is quite rightly getting huge publicity at the moment but MGS is just as big a game and will shift loads of consoles for Sony. When you remember that GTA and Final Fantasy are both bigger than Halo next year looks very rosy indeed for Sony.
PS3 has exclusive heavy hitters coming this year, Big Time…not to mention exclusivity titles being released on PS3 as compared to the garbage titles on Wii and 360.
Glad I got my PS3, Sony’s vision of creating a media hub device is finally coming to fruition, PlayStation3.
The Microsoft XBox division has never posted a profit. Since inception, they are over 6 Billion dollars in the red. Nothing that Microsoft has attempted to do in the gaming industry has ever turned a profit. On top of that, Laptops are eventually going to be equipped with BDR drives. That should end the format war once and for all. When a consumer walks into a store to buy a laptop and the sales man says, “the Blu-Ray blank discs hold 25 gigs and the HD-DVDR discs only hold 15 gigs”, which one do you think people will buy. Pile on top of those reasons that the XBox 360 is not and never will be full HD. The 360 HD-DVD add on doesn’t even play HD-DVDs in 1080p. XBox & HD-DVD is like a bad joke. Don’t fall for it!
Xbox 360 is going to peak this year and end up in a distant third position by the end of 2008. The console itself it the worst electronics failure (in terms of defective rate) ever launched on a global basis. It is woefully underpowered next to the Playstation 3 (boasting one of the worlds most powerful chips) while it is made up of off the shelf pc based components. On the gaming front the xobox 360 has a handful of solid and good game titles but they are all pretty much launched this year and after these launches the have nothing that they can do or develop that will match the quality of the newest playstation 3 games.
Xbox 360 is already finished and anyone who follows this all ready knows it.
Are you serious? Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are bigger than Halo? Well, I better tune into reality because apparently I’ve been living in a Xbox 360 fantasy world. I’m sorry but the Xbox nor the X360 had the pleasure of not having a “Playstation” to compete with when PS1 launched. Much like the IPOD; Playstation, didn’t have serious competition in what it was doing. It was a 32 bit system aganst a 64 bit console (n64) but it still won because of the Compact disc advantage. Playstation 2 won because of the ability to play DVDs. Dreamcast was technically the better system as was the n64 from certain standpoints (support for 4 controllers natively) to name a few. But Sony still won because CD’s were the hottest thing when it PS1 launched. DVDs were being introduced and boosted by PS2 therefore it won developer support, therefore it won. PS3 is hopeful that BLu-ray will carry ps3 into the next gen as a winner as it’s ability to make a game system was never good, but it’s marketing approach always got it the win. Playstation was NEVER the best console from it’s inception. Yet it still managed to win. What gives? Lets summarize.
Playstation : CD Media, Marketing = Win for Sony. (Blind consumerism)
Playstation 2: DVD Trojan horse = Win for Sony. (Semi-blind consumerism)
PSP : UMD Trojan horse = Failed. (Semi-consumer realization)
Playstation 3: BLU-ray Trojan horse = … You will be the judge. (Let’s not be fooled again)
Sony isn’t in the gaming business.. they are in the licensing business because that’s much more lucrative. They license movies rights and patents. The gamers choice here is simple and it’s the one that Game developers have chosen so far and thats the XBOX. Because Game developers are gamers themselves. So go ahead and stick a fork in Sony because they are done. Now that consumers are much smarter and looking at things like frame-rate issues and which console runs games smoother. Guess which one runs the same games in the same graphics modes with less studdar? You guessed it, it isn’t your prized PS3 but the underpowered but better supported xbox. Case closed.
Well I know of 5 people that are buying a 360 this christmas after seeing the Bioshock demo myself included although I was already planning to get one for Halo and GTA, so Bioshock is just one more reason why i can’t be without one.
XBox360 continues to beat PS3 in sales month in and month out even though its been in the market for a whole year longer - why? More and higher quality games and better graphics, easier to develop for, more affordable. People are sick of Sony and their bragging and lies and rootkits. Remember all their promises which never came true. The PS3 is an overpowered yet undedeveloped machine - like having all the food in the world behind a locked door. Developers are staying away because its hard to programme. People are seeing higher quality images on the Xbox 360 games. The trojan horse of Blur-ray has peaked and now the higher quality HDDVD and more affordable HDDVD players will dominate as more studios like Paramount and Disney etc will switch to HDDVD. And funnily enough the success of PS2 is killing PS3 as well as no-one is switching from 2 to 3 except highly frustrated fanboys who can’t play games on their PS3 becasue there are none - so they watch a Blur-ray disc instead - The top AV people all prefer HDDVD quality so theres no joy for the PS3 fanboys there either. The PS3 is doomed - rushed out far too quick to force hi-priced blur-ray on us all but we haven’t fallen for it.
I Know the PS 3 Is Having The Blue-ray , but It does not mean that microsoft stupid to use the dvd without planning for the future , microsoft is using DVD And it Know This is not problem But I Prove It use The dvd and it know what will happen in the future and it know That DVD Is Very Good For The New generation Games Even If 2009 Coming The Xbox 360 Is Very Hard with Microsoft .

Microsoft have just demonstrated their inferior manufacturing process as proved by the high levels of xbox failures worldwide.
MS had the chance to literally steal the market from under the noses of Sony, and what did they do with this opportunity? Sub-standard mainboards and x-clamps that melt due to the excessive heat generated, and MS didn’t provide enough QA to prevent this. MS has the professional characteristics of a 3rd world company, which is to deceive people. They deceived millions of people that their machine was the best. With this in mind, consider the following question:
How many people out there are on their second, or third xbox console?
So technically yes, if you include all the reconditioned consoles in the above prediction, yes MS will dominate, but only because they are trying to fend off lawsuits with useless extended warranties which will see a greater turnover in consoles being shipped out.
In the meantime, I’ll warn whoever I can, if you can’t afford to lose $400, don’t buy an xbox. Simple.
For any MS fans out there, please show your support for MS and buy my “dead” 360. I’ll even include detailed instructions on how to stick this machine where the sun doesn’t shine.

Thing is though, Microsoft has no first party to speak of outside of Halo and Forza. Seriously what successful or even good franchises do they have out of those? They have released one already and Halo 3 in September. I don’t think third parties are going to carry them throughout the entire console. Well if Microsoft actually decides to wait the next 6 years for a console instead or 3 1/2.
While I’m sure that the 360 will have great games throughout it’s entire cycle, but I don’t think it will be 1st or even 2nd. Unless they just start making good system sellers outside of Halo and Fable(which I neglected to mention, but too lazy to edit again).
As for 3rd parties, Sony will always have that. Considering the Japanese reject the 360. So any time someone will try to make some grand RPG it will most likely be exclusive to the PS3 seeing as it would be a large loss to develop it in Japan when it isn’t even going to sell 250,000. I don’t even think Blue Dragon has surpassed that yet, and everyone knows the names behind it and it has been out since December. Now maybe if it sales extremely well in America, I doubt, that may give them a reason to develop for them.
Future wise, Microsoft has nothing except Fable 2. While Sony is trying to to put half of their big guns in 2008. They’ll still have enough for the following year, with still an extremely popular title in God of War. Developers, like Epic, might flock to the PS3 because of it’s open online service(also might keep some away). Microsoft is FAR from a guarantee in leading the PS3 by the end of this war. However, this seems like all a moot point though seeing as the Wii is more likely to finish with probably double more then either of the two.
Christian is full of bull***t, ps3 has allready some really good games, and before christmas, too many and it’s a perfect dvd player, bluray player, multimedia, you can do a lot of thing with your psp (watch tv, play some ps3 games, etc), and free wifi, free online, silence and no sh**ty rod on ps3 !

MGS 4 is only one game and thats the only thing PS3 has but how long do you think it will take to make its way to the 360, just like the other MGS’s. And GTA 4 is coming on both consoles, DA!! But only xbox has downloadable content!!!
My mate has a PS3 and is still to buy a game for it, y coz there are none and what ever games are coming out on it in the near future will be on the 360 and will be better on the 360!!!!

Fact is M$ and Sony are just companies who want your money get it through your head’s. The 360 has much better game’s now and through this year in 2008 sony will be getting much better but it will be too late and if they dont do something to make it easier to dev on their machine they will really sink. Also please dont make me shoot milk through my nose again by reading that MGS4 will be a bigger finacial success than halo 3 i mean come on no sane minded person would right this. For me i own the 360 and the ps3, although i bought the ps3 first but then got bored after completing RFM and coz there was no quality games coming out in the near future i went out and got me a 360 with a couple of games like GOW & lost planet. Now most of my games are for the 360 but to be honest if it was a multi platform game sure i’ll buy it on Ps3 coz it will give me more playing time without praying for god not to send my second 360 for hell, i keep living in fear of the 3 rings of death or doom Oh god i even had nightmares after the first one got burned.
Ok there are sooo many badly informed people on this forum it just isn’t funny! Listen, there are two sides to every coin and this battle isn’t nearly over. I’m X360 owner and I fully admit that whilst I’m only on my second console I know of plenty of people that have burned 8 or 9! That’s just rediculas. If I was one of those people, there’s no way I’d WANT a new 360, let alone buy one! MS just hasn’t done enough in the way of QA testing on this machine, period.
Also, Sony has the Blu-Ray card to play. If they do it right, then things will get very hot for a while. With the big movie studios shifting between Blu-ray and HD the way they are who knows which way it will go. But one thing’s for sure on this front MAKE NO MISTAKE - IT’S U AND I THAT WILL LOSE OUT HERE! One way or another there will be plenty of cunsumers like you and I that buy into one side or another, only to find out that we have wasted our money.
Going for MS on the other hand, are a few great things. With the year headstart on the PS3, MS has plenty of consoles actually in the market (that still work) with which to peddle GREAT games. Whoever wrote that there are no good games coming to the X360 is AN IDIOT! Check these out:

GTA4 - Whatever PS3 seems to get X360 is muscling in on. Plenty of good 360 exclusives now, not as many Great ones for PS3.
Way off in the distant future. It looks like Half-life episodes are coming the way of the 360 as is SPORE - the biggest thing since The SIMS.
In addition MS also had the foresight to make their high end DVD drive an add-on. That way if Blu-Ray does win the war. Guess who can make a Blu-Ray add-on…
But make no mistake 360 owners, Sony are far from done. The PS3 is far far from toast. With the Cell architecture this baby is packing, PS3 is set to have a MUCH longer life-span than the 360. I expect to be upgrading my 360 in the next 2 years. PS3 developers might just be unlocking the full power the PS3’s processing architecture by then. Expect AMAZING graphics from the PS3. Sony’s machines rests in the ability of it’s developers to create the games to go with it. It MUST start to provide better support to those developers.

Own a PS3, never a 360. Also own the Ps2, GC, and xbox. The xbox was the only console I had to replace on day one as it was defective. then the hassle of paying for online multi player. To play with kids who aren’t even to be on the live service. At least Microsoft enforces their DRM downloads like the arcade titles. RRoD your xbox and never again can you share or play these purchases except to pay for live access. The horror. Besides MS expects all xbox users to buy the memory cards, headsets, gamepads every 3 - 4 years when MS decides to pull the plug on the 360? MY PS3 can use any BlueTooth / USB headset, camera. The PS3 can also use my PS2 controllers with an adapter (9.99). And the hard drive can be upgraded to any 2.5 sized drive when ever I need to. I don’t have to buy an over priced xbox drive like 360 users. I could go on and on as I will never see any value in an MS product. You decide.

ps3 is no good to hard to program for the cell processor has only 1 general prupose proceesor tho 8 total micro porcessor it has only one real general purpse one while the 360 has 3 gerneral purpose processing performance and the gpus and cpus are more felxuable and and powerful in the xbox 360 has the unified shader in its xenos ati custom processor and sony doesnt have it only xbox 360 the first to use the unified shatter and the framerate in the 360 douable the ps3 garbage. the memory for graphics on the ps3 are 3x times less then the 360 get you facts striaght sony fanboys playstation has had its time sony needs to stop gaming and stick with tvs and vcrs even those arnt good. xbox 360 forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always enjoyed what sony brought to the table especially ps1! (My favorite) When I purchased my ps2 back in 00 it was great with some amazing titles. Sadly enough it broke on me within 6 months. So like any other person with a 1 year warranty, I sent it back. When it finally arrived on my door step, I kid you not it broke on me within that week. So i gave up on sony not because of the games but the sh***y hardware they replaced in my ps2. Now I own a xbox 360 and so far so good. The games for the system are outstanding and highly addictive. But I still miss owning a sony. Im not taking any sides because I still have high hopes for sony, I just enjoy xbox live and playing games with my Boyz!!!!!!

By the time the PS3 realises its called potential power it will al be in vain. Xbox 720 or 360 2 will hit the shelves and the saga will start over. The point PS3 fanboys are missing is that the future is NOW!! Developers find it harder to code for PS3 than 360 and this has been evident in games which have been simultaneously released for both formats, none more recent than FIFA 08. Sony can claim that the PS3 is staistically more powerful than the 360 but their claim becomes redundant if develoers cannot or do not know ho to unlock or unleash this power as has been the case. Thats all it is PS3 fanboys - a claim.Sony continually overhype their overly expensive products and are now being caught out not just in the console market but the entertainment market where Apple have trounced them with the introduction and unparralled success of their IPOD. Sony’s time is up and serves them right for keeping the public waiting with constant delays of the PS3’s launch and overly exensive pricing of their console. Again PS3 fanboys can argue that the PS3 boasts an integrated wireless adapter as well as BlueRay, but wh cares!! Microsoft have given the consumer what they want… a choice! They can choose at what level they wish to enter the market in with budget 360’s suit their pocket. They can pick up next gen console gaming for a mere £199. Microsft for all their critisicm have pulled off a major coup over Sony. First next gen console to hit the market, correct price strategy, a comprehensive line up of games and superb online facilities which are far superior to PS3’s free service. Frankly I would rather pay the £38 a yeear than put up with Sony’s free service which is shabby compared to Xbox Live.

Each of which is EXCEPTIONALLY well, and awesome to play!!! I never miss having a PS3… infact compared to all what i get: its a FACT, whatever PS3 got, X360 has the same and even more… if there are 1 or 2 PS only titles, X360 has its own style to compete which is definately worth playing. MGS4 has chances to come to X360, and i think if Konami is smart enough, they wud bring it.
So, there’s o way PS3 even has anything to X360 owners to leave it, and there’s simply more reasons to get a X360.. its just so much more now!!! It truely gives me quality time… im not in jap gaming, so many very japenese styled games doesn’t influence me much… i do love both american and jap developers - but i like american stylesd games (if u get what i mean)!
here’s what MS needs to do:
1. Permit developers to go for Multi-DVD Games!! (PLEASE, this is no rocket science)
2. Make support for external keyboard and mouse
3. do some good mareting based on media communication in asian countries
