PS3 Thumps Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 Down Under
Published by Josh Foster June 29th, 2007 in Gaming, Nintendo, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Sony, PlayStation 3, Wii.It appears that the Wii is not dominating PS3 and Xbox 360 in every corner of the globe. In fact, PlayStation 3 has been the numero uno console in Australia, outselling its competition almost every week since the next-gen console launched on March 23, 2007.
“Based on GfK since launch, PS3 has been the number one next-gen console, outselling Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week,” said Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s managing director Michael Ephraim to Gamespot.
“Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one-selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures. We’ve now sold 50,000–and we’re very excited about the fact that it’s being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you’ll notice it’s now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronic stores as a Blu-ray player.”
It’s a phenoma that’s only taking place down under, at least for the time being. In Japan, Nintendo’s phenom has outsold PlayStation 3 by a margin of five to one.
Great Sony sold 50,000, the Wii sold 100,000 and the Xbox 360 sold 160,000. Clearly the PS3 is ahead.
Since Sony having trouble getting any good news lately they decided to invent some. Sad, deluded.
Great, except that a third party has announced this week that Nintendo has sold over 100,000 Wii units in Australia to date, which is 2 to 1 over PS3.
Ummm…. No. This news is missleading.
Microsoft has sold 180,000 units of the XBox 360 console in Australia - more than three times that of PS3.
Nintendo has cleared over 100,000 Wii consoles - twice that of PS3.
Sony PS3 is currently dead last in the console race in Australia. The announcement was simply some positive spin by looking at the numbers in a particular way.
Those two other consoles have been out longer then the ps3, so i dont know what all you guys are talking about.
didn’t the ps3 and the wii come out the same week? and i thought the ps3 came out 2 days earlier than the wii?
