Wyoming: John Barrasso Picked To Take Craig Thomas’ Senate Seat
Published by Jeremy Stillman June 22nd, 2007 in World.Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal today selected state Senator John Barrasso to temporarily replace Craig Thomas, who passed away on June 4th while being treated for leukemia.
“I look forward to working with John Barrasso as he assumes his duties as the interim senator for Wyoming,” Freudenthal said. “I pledge my cooperation to do all that I can to make sure he is a successful senator.”
“There are many factors that went into this decision, and it was the sum of these factors that led me to this choice,” he continued. “While I don’t intend to indulge the speculation on why I made this decision, I will say that I hope I made the right choice.”
Mr. Barrasso is a Republican like his predecessor, so the balance of power in the Senate remains the same. He will serve until the start of 2008; a special election will be held in November ‘08 to determine who will finish Thomas’ term in 2012.
