Rockstar Responds To Nintendo Wii Game Ban
Published by Josh Foster June 21st, 2007 in Gaming, Nintendo, Wii.As we reported earlier, the BBFC has banned the upcoming title Manhunt 2, which had been slated to be released on Wii, PS2, and PSP. This was deemed to be terrible news for UK gamers in the UK and wonderful news for importers.
Now Rockstar has come out with a statement in response to the ban.
“We are disappointed with the recent decision by the British Board of Film Classification to refuse classification of Manhunt 2. While we respect the authority of the classification board and will abide by the rules, we emphatically disagree with this particular decision.
“Manhunt 2 is an entertainment experience for fans of psychological thrillers and horror. The subject matter of this game is in line with other mainstream entertainment choices for adult consumers.
“We respect those who have different opinions about the horror genre and video games as a whole, but we hope they will also consider the opinions of the adult gamers for whom this product is intended. We believe all products should be rated to allow the public to make informed choices about the media and art they wish to consume. The stories in modern video games are as diverse as the stories in books, film and television. The adult consumers who would play this game fully understand that it is fictional interactive entertainment and nothing more.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Totally agree with RockStar. Although with an AO rating in the US it’s screwed now. It has to bring the level of gore/sex down for an M rating. Otherwise Nintendo of America and Sony America won’t support it. And that would be catastrophic for sales.
To Tom:
Not only will NOA and SCEA not support it, they won’t allow it on their consoles!
The BBFC need to stop stepping on peoples toes, t his ban may help 5 or 10 mentally sick individuals from getting hold of the game out of the 10 million normal avid gamers. CONGRATS YOU MADE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE…
I cant believe they intend to bugger over so many gamers. I find it insaulting and patranising and I wish this nanny state would f*** off.
When you ban somthing, it gives the game more appeal,
“hey, im just buying that banned game from the states its gonna be awsome”
you wont stop people form playing it, its our decision if we want to do somthing or not keep it a free country.
We shall find it on the internet for download, shame rockstar wont get as much cash for a surperb title.
* i dont even own a Wii, im 25 and want to be treated like im 25. not like im some twitching retard with no defenition of right and wrong which is what the BBFC are insinuating about the general public.
Grrrr, this countrys going down the bog.
