It’s hard to believe that there hasn’t been a Paul Thomas Anderson movie in the theaters since 2002’s Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler.  

But the half-decade hiatus is over, and now he is returning in an epic way with There Will Be Blood, whose trailer has finally arrived as well.

It looks like it’s certainly been worth the wait.  

The studio describes it as “a story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century Texas prospector in the early days of the business.”

Not exactly my cup of tea, but it doesn’t matter one iota.  The flick is written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the genius whose previous works were Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love.   And it stars Daniel Day Lewis,  perhaps the single most appreciated actor of the last twenty years.   That’s all I need to know…and the trailer makes the point better than I ever could.
