NPD April Rankings: Wii Xbox 360 PS3 NPD Funworld has released its April numbers for the States, and Wii has once again topped the chart for next-generation consoles.  Xbox 360 came in second, while PS3 is still struggling to keep up with the competition.

Nintendo Wii sold 360,000 units in the month of April.  Microsoft’s Xbox 360 reached 174,000 consoles sold, which is certainly respectable considering it’s been out for over a year.

PS3 is still having a tough time getting out of the box.  Sony’s PlayStation 3 only sold 82,000 units in the same time period.  Whether it’s supply or consumer apathy, Sony must be hoping for better days to come…and soon.

The hardware sales top eight (including all platforms) for April is below.

APRIL 2007 US HARDWARE SALES

I hope sony doesnt do a price drop. I know alot of people cant see it but the ps3 is ahead of its time. Its going to take another year for the rest of the world to catch up. Once more cheaper HDTV are sold game release come out, more people will push to own a ps3. I think sony should put their foot down on that price until Xmas. Again its not sony fault that more titles havent hit the console yet. Its up to Devs to produce quality Next Gen games with robust online play. The hardware is their and by the end of the summer the combination of HOME, and PS3 top titles will make ps3 worth its weight in the consumers eyes. I have a xbox and I have a ps3. ps3 is worth the 600 price tag IMO, its probally one of the best built piece of hardware I have ever had. Just look at the fail rate its almost non-exsistance compared to the ratio of sales. Its a solid buy, It offers everything you could ever need for the next-gen gaming for years to come. The Ps3 is just ahead of its time.

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
wii is not the same thing as a 360 or PS3;WII is more like a bicycle
were any body can ride it. A ps3 and a 360 is more like expensive sports car were you have real fun,and makes u say “wwwwoooowwww”

err… how about the ps2 topped the xbox360 once again, something certainly respectable considering it’s been out for over SEVEN years!

    It makes you say wow?
Gaming is about more than just pretty graphics.
PS3 will just feature millions of nice graphics, and unrealistic,
arcade style game play racing games, an other bunch of one of
a million fps shooters (with better graphics), everythingthe same but
    with better graphics.

The wii on the other hand, has completelly original gameplay, and a lot
    of new things to offer.

WOW graphics? who cares, its about good games, and having fun,
not a 1 millionth clone of a game, with better graphics.

But I guess we need more of you to keep the market going.

  5. 5 My god.

Please, learn how to spell. (Not in the article but in the comments).

  6. 6 Get Real

Sony’s only mistake with the PS3 is that they should have given the developers more time to design games for launch. It is more than just a game machine and worth the 600 dollars. It brings a lot more than FPS games and great graphics.

If you want to buy a game system, then buy an xbox 360
(that’s all that you’re going to get with microsoft)

If you want to buy an entertainment hub for your living room, buy the PS3

If you have kids, buy a wii.
