Barack Obama Slams Rudy Giuliani For ‘Politics Of Fear’
Published by Ian Klein April 25th, 2007 in World.Barack Obama has responded to Rudy Giuliani’s claims that the United States would be less safe with a Democatic president.
Pondering the fight against terrorism, on Tuesday Giuliani asserted that “If we are on defense [with a Democratic president], we will have more losses and it will go on longer.”
“I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense,” Giuliani continued. “We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation and we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense… The Democrats do not understand the full nature and scope of the terrorist war against us.”
Barack Obama wholeheartedly disagrees. In a statement released on his website, he hit back forcefully.
Rudy Giuliani today has taken the politics of fear to a new low and I believe Americans are ready to reject those kind of politics. America’s mayor should know that when it comes to 9/11 and fighting terrorists, America is united. We know we can win this war based on shared purpose, not the same divisive politics that question your patriotism if you dare to question failed policies that have made us less secure. I think we should focus on strengthening our intelligence, working with local authorities and doing all the things we haven’t yet done to keep Americans safe. The threat we face is real, and deserves better than to be the punchline of another political attack.
When are the Democrats going to start calling the Bush Republicans like Giuiliani what they are: International Instigators? They are war mongers and trouble makers. They do not like to communicate, they do not like diplomacy, they do not like open discussion, they promote international distrust and paranoia by acting unilaterally and secretively, and greedily. And most of all, they hunger for military solutions to world problems. They do not understand war and they have, according to all the deeper thinking/observing experts, made the US more vunerable. There are MORE enemies to the US now thanks to the BUSH/CHENEY enemy-producing approach to US foreign policy.
The only people who should be supporting the likes of Bush, Cheney and Giuliani are the weapons manufacturers and Haliburton.
Giuiliani??? We couldn’t hope for any worse a president. What foolish plan is this for the Republicans?
The only reason BUSH/CHENEY have gotten so far with the Iraq war is all the brain-washing by AM radio hotheads like Hannity, Savage and Coulter. As a New Yorker I can say, the US does not need a BUSH clone to continue with this magnificently dishonest, deceptive US policy.
The response is fantastic, brilliant and befits Barack Obama. Dare to believe that this brilliant man of integrity will ultimately prevail and will lead the free world out of the quagmire it finds itself today. This is more than another American election. This is a make it or break it sort of election, where the future leadership of America will either fail - or will prevail with Barack Obama, whose age means energy, daring and active rethinking of the important issues, not “inexperience” as some would have it. Either America falls back to the unwelcome role of world bully, or some creative change will propel it forward. Change, or just rot further.
I wish Obama all the best in his campain, he is the main with a plan a new hope for the American people.
How heartening to see two replies which show that Guiliani’s cynical scare-mongering will not work. And how great that Obama is willing to take him on. I back hope over fear any day of the week.
Obama’s responce couldn’t have been any better. I support any Democrat running for presidency. The USA should be united at this time of need of support and unity, and Obama is a wonderful leader. I was confused with the “MAYOR’S” comment of how the US will not be safe if a Democrat is in office…Wasn’t a REPUBLICAN in office when 9/11 and other terrorist attacks happened? Nice.
