Edward Norton has been set by Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk.

Don’t make Edward Norton angry; you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.  Just ask Tony Kaye.

Norton, who usually avoids mainstream fare, has decided to bite the bullet and take on the iconic role of Bruce Banner in the upcoming The Incredible Hulk.  The role was last played by Eric Bana in the 2003 movie by Ang Lee and while the film the acclaimed by some critics, it left many moviegoers a tad baffled.

“Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business,” Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement as quoted by Variety. “His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way.”

The new film will be directed by?Louis Leterrier (Unleashed, Transporter 2) and written by Zack Penn, who has come a long way since writing PCU.  Look for the Universal-distributed green guy to hit the theaters on June 13, 2008.
