US Northeast Slammed By Intense Storm
Published by Staff April 16th, 2007 in World.The northeastern United States is being hit by a powerful storm that forecasters say is likely to cause severe coastal flooding and power outages in some places.
The unusually intense spring storm pounded the U.S. Gulf Coast Friday and Saturday with violent thunderstorms. Authorities blamed several deaths on the storm in the states of Texas and Kansas.
The storm forced the cancellation of some 300 flights in the New York City area Sunday, and several major league baseball games on the U.S. east coast were postponed.
Forecasters are predicting sustained winds of more than 60 kilometers an hour and a coastal storm surge of up to 1.5 meters.
