It appears that the cat is out of the bag aboutGuitar Hero 3hitting Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 after all.

There has yet to be an official announcement about a release date for the Red Octane title, let alone details which platforms thegame is coming to. However, on the Red Octane support site, thesupport knowledgebasegives it away:

When is Guitar Hero 2 (II) Coming? Will there be GH 2 for NintendoWii, PS3, XBox, Xbox 360, etc?

Guitar Hero 2 for Playstation 2 launched 11/7/2006, Xbox 360 launched 4/3/2007 and both items are shipping now. Please check http://www.guitarherogame.com/ and http://www.redoctane.com/ for the most current information.

Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007.

Stiil, take this as unconfirmed until there’s an official announcement. However, when Activision purchased Red Octane they made it very clear that this was their intent all along.

“[Guitar Hero] was a great IP that was really in need of global distribution and the operating efficiencies that we could bring to what was a relatively small company,” said Activision CEO Robert Kotick. “The long-term opportunities here include all sorts of product extensions–music downloads that are very high-margin opportunities–and we’ll start with the launch of GH 2 for the PlayStation 2 this fall. And you can expect next calendar year launches of GH on every significant new format.”
