Beatles And iTunes: Here Comes The Sun?
Published by Ian Klein April 1st, 2007 in Entertainment, Internet, Music. After years and years of battles, it appears that the Beatles catalog is going to put on iTunes in an agreement by EMI and Apple.
We’re always wary of news that comes in on April 1st, but powerhouses such as Variety and are reporting this as well, so it’s either going to happen or is thecruelest prank to ever be played on the Beatles lovin’ public.
Eric Nicoli,CEO of EMI Groupcurrently has a 1 p.m. (8 a.m. ET) press conference scheduled in London tomorrow to announce “an exciting new digital offering” with iTunes’ Steve Jobs listed as “special guest.” A live performance will follow.
Apple, creator of the Mac, iTunes, etc. recently won a drawn-out legal battle with Apple Corps’, the Beatles record label, which opened the doors to reconciliation.
Last year Apple Corps’ Neil Aspinall told London’s High Court that “We’re remastering the whole Beatles catalog, just to make it sound brighter and better and getting proper booklets to go with each of the packages. I think it would be wrong to offer downloads of the old masters when I am making new masters. It would be better to wait and try to do them both simultaneously so that you then get the publicity of the new masters and the downloading, rather than just doing it ad hoc.”
