GAME: PS3 Launch Stronger Than Nintendo Wii Or Xbox 360

GAME is chock full o’ PS3 consoles, with the retailer stating that they’ve got much more supply of PlayStation 3 than they previously had for the launch of Wiiand Xbox 360.
“It’s very unusual that we’re going to be in a situation where we’ve got enough stock to fulfil demand in the short term that’s never happened before,” Anna Macario, told GamesIndustry.biz.
“Sony withheld the release of the PS3 in order to build up stock levels for launch. The situation with the Xbox 360 was terrible and the Wii doesn’t even hit the sides when it comes in”, she continued. “I think this is a very good move on Sony’s part it won’t have that negativity of not being able to supply enough units,” Macario explained.
Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm are two of the most popular titles requested at GAME, with Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 and Activision’s Call of Duty 3 also highly anticipated.

It’s been said way too many times but if you want to measure the “success” of a console, start with the size of its user base. The larger user bases have a greater number of potential software consumers and, thus, more compelling software to choose from.
Why don’t we do a little number check and look at this gigantic PS3 user base…

All I know is, here in Indiana (United States), the PS3’s are readily available at almost all major retailers and game shops. You are still unable to find a Wii. People are still cueing up on Sundays at places that advertise. My cousin just put his name on a waiting list at GameStop. The demand is insane!

For a second I thought they were implying that the PS3 games were better. Even still, the amount of sales the PS3 received at launch was abysmal.
Kids get bored easily, trust me. And although the Wii is the flavour of the month right now, I believe it’s long lasting appeal is limited. Drunken late night games with the lads (goodbye ornaments), is fun but again the temptation to get stuck into some serious HD ‘blow the nuts off aliens’ (do aliens have nuts? If so where? Am I just waisting my ammo shooting between their legs?) 360/PS3 goodness is too much!
Horses for courses I suppose. Each has it’s good and bad points and each has it’s own unique place in the market. I do think the PS3/360 will prove to be the ultimate winners with the Wii in third however.
But ask yourself the question, do I like the games I’m playing on my games system? If the answer is “yes” then who the cares what anybody else thinks.
360 will win in the long run. The games are already 2nd gen on the platform. More or less the same specs, cheaper price and more games! The cas buyer will go 360. Plus HD, everyone knows blu-ray wont succeed, half the countries tvs says hd ready on the front,what will people buy??? Hd, and how many previous movie formats have sony mastered, umd? err Mini disc….
Ps3 will do well, but it just wont be the leaded.

I am pretty sure not one bad thing was said about the PS3 in my post. Let me go back and check. Yep. I really didn’t say one bad thing about it. Oh, I did bring up the fact that they are available in any store to pick up. That is a real world observation. I hardly consider that bashing. It’s not like I hate SONY. I just think they might have reached a bit far this time. The thing about curing cancer is pretty neat and I hope PS3 owners opt in for that. Since all PS3 owners are rich like you Prince, they won’t mind the increase in there electricity bill every month.
And you are not from Indiana sir. I know we might have some hicks in this part of the country but they sure can type better English than you. And come’on about the XBOX360! I don’t own one, but I wouldn’t mind having it. GOW is the bomb and HALO3 is worth the price of admission. And with SONY not holding onto its third party exclusives, it’s going to be much tougher for them to catch up.
Last Man Standing, I think you may be right. I do think there will be room for all three this generation. At least untill the WiiHD comes out… By that time (in 2 years) I will be ready to buy the system all over again. And since it didn’t cost an arm and a leg the first time, I won’t mind spending the same amount to get it again.

Those who still believe the Wii will end up in third are ridiculous. Nintendo hardware sales recently accounted for 54% of the total market.
The very best a sony or XBox fanboi can hope for is that the Wii remains at a different demographic than the other systems. The Wii will continue to outsell because -everyone- is buying them, not just core gamers. The Wii could be a serious machine though, since it has a large user base, developers will most likely drop franchise favorites alongside Wii sports like novelties. Manhunt 2 is coming to the Wii… what next?
Sony suggests they are in for the “marathon” and that they will be the top machine in three years, or five years, and that this generation of game consoles will go on for years. Well, I think that before the PS3 sales have paid for all the developement costs, the Wii 2 (Wiiii perhaps) will already be developed. Even the next Xbox will be nearing completion. By the time the PS3 is ready to compete on price and games, there will already be a new competitor stealing all the attention.

Eh hello was this delay not due to the difficulties of mass producing the blu ray drives and other massively expensive hardware? Cell cough.Anyway to the point, these fanbois are ridiculous wether they be Sony, Nintendo or MS.Gaming is gaming and each consol offers its own exclusives and some might even blow you away if you give them a chance.
I do belive this site has been very negative towards PS3. I remember really looking forward to the PS3 but i can’t afford one nethier can most people we have kids we have school, theres just not enough time. I do belive that the Wii or the 360 will come i first. I would like to have a wii but i havnt even seen one unless its on display. I do personally favor the Wii though.
Guess what. I live in Singapore. And the Wii launch here was supposed to be on the 31 of March. Now it’s TBA. For what??? Because the local distributor can’t get hold of any stock enough for a tiny Singapore launch.
BTW the PS3 launch here was only 200 units… guess this speaks volumes about the availability of the Wii.

I definitely have the money to afford a PS3 and I am pretty sure I have more money than you. But I’m not going to buy one because though I have money I have more sense than money and can make an informed decision about whether a product is worth the price whether is cost 5, 425 or 5000.

Ummm… No. I have a pile of $1600 in 20s next to me, and I have a Wii. Only a Wii. Why? Because it’s fun. The PS3 had all of ten games when it came out. The Wii had over 20. I can swordfight someone with the Wii without a screen with 20 captions on what button does what. I can play a FPS and not need to worry about my joystick setup. When I hold my controller gangsta style, it turns gangsta style. I don’t neet any joysticks or buttons. To shoot, I press the trigger. End of story.
The Wii is selling like an addictive drug which it kinda is. Me and my mate brought my wii round to another mates house and i got 6 people playing it for hours, 3 of which were girls, and only one was a previous gamer. They all want one and two are def gettin one. It has such a larger market niche than any other console. Either the Wii or 360 will win as it has almost halfed 360 sales but the 360 has some killer titles to be released along with the 360. Wii60! The PS3 = expensive processer, sony tried to create more than a console and lost the idea of fun, hence the sh** sales. J.M.

Umm… I don’t know if you know, but blu-ray has more than 80% of the magor studios on exclusive deals to produce movies only on blu-ray disks. Also, HD ready only refers to the quality of the TV resolution - HD ready only means that it can play High Definition. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are both HD formats!
Also: in England we pay $850 or more for the PS, and that isn’t even including the games, which are another $75 or so. So you Americans, stop bitching!

I ve been waiting for nintendo wii stock in the UK for months now and there is never any in stock.
