PlayStation 3 Shipment Halved

PlayStation 3 North America shipment

PJ McNealy of American Technology Research, for Sony's PS3 launch weekend, the company shipped between 125K and 175K unitsWhen Sony’s PlayStation 3launched North America last week,at least one analystclaims that the shipment numbers were cut in half.

“After further review, our research indicates that Sony’s PS3 opening weekend shipments were below our already lowered expectations,”explained PJ McNealy of American Technology Research.

“To be crystal clear, we don’t expect it likely that SNE will update any of its hardware numbers before it reports its December quarter in late January. We believe that the December NPD report of North American November retail hardware is shaping up to be 125k to 175k, but outside of NPD and other local (Japan) market reports, we expect SNE to remain mum and focus on delivering units to retail.”

Thankfully, Sony has until March to get their production numbersin orderfor the Europe launch.

There’s a lot of depressing news about sony PS3, exclusives jumping ship, 1080i downscale problems, Genjii bugs. Perhaps living in Europe and having a late release date has it’s advantages after all. Hopefully all these problems will be fixed by the time the PAL versions arrive on our shores.
They must realise that us over here are watching developments and making our plans and thinking that Sony must get it’s act together to avoid what could be the worst gaming disaster of the decade. If these botches carry on it could send the PS3 the way of the Dreamcast. The gaming world has changed more than Sony Realizes and it no longer has the midas touch. Perhaps Nintendo have soemthing with the focus on fun-gaming rather than power gaming.
